This workshop is intended for loggers and foresters and will provide a basic understanding of Maine?s timber harvesting rules. The emphasis is on rules concerning water quality, clearcutting, liquidation harvesting, and forest operations notifications. The workshop will not cover laws/rules enforced by the Forest Protection Division/Forest Rangers. Participants will receive a copy of the MFS publication, ?The Forestry Rules of Maine.?
The workshop will begin with sign-in and refreshments at 8:30 AM. Presentations begin half an hour later. Attendance is limited and pre-registration is required.
The workshop begins at 8:30. ??Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Please register so we have an accurate count for lunch.

Emerging Markets for Forest Products - What's Next??
Join the Forest Resources Association for a discussion of some of the emerging products being made from wood.? Eric Kingsley will review what?s happening commercially ? what?s under construction, what?s being funded, and is on the horizon.? In the coming months and years that includes insulation, biochar, biofuels and more.? ? Then we?ll be joined by Jake Snow of the University of Maine?s Advanced Structures and Composite Center, who will share some of the cutting edge research (including some show-and-tell) with some of the products under development at the lab, and some of the products moving toward commercialization.
The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is holding three listening sessions in April to gather input on emerald ash borer regulations in Maine. The sessions will be hybrid, allowing for in-person and online participation. Meetings will be held in Augusta on April 12, Houlton on April 13, and Old Town on April 20. Interested parties should subscribe to receive EAB-related news.
The WoodWise East Program announces training for Bird Habitat Management for foresters and landowners. Join the Maine Audubon Society, Maine Tree Farm, Forest Stewards Guild, and the Maine Forest Service for a two-part training in the Forestry for Maine Birds (FFMB) program.

Thursday May 25th 8:30 am to 3:30 pm: FFMB field meeting led by Sally Stockwell, Director of Conservation, Maine Audubon; Rob Bryan, forester and author of Focus Species Forestry; and Joe Roy, Private Lands Biologist, MDIFW. ?Lunch will be provided.
The Field meeting will have a short introductory indoor meeting at the Caribou Bog Outdoor Center, on Taylor Road in Orono followed by a field trip in the Newman Hill Property of the Orono Land Trust.
