Dear reader,
For our special issue on how economic policy models create barriers to action, we wanted someone on the front lines of policymaking, who has seen the damaging effects of having to legislate in a distorted environment.

Today, Senator Elizabeth Warren writes for the Prospect about how our current budgetary models prevent legislators from designing policies that meet working people’s needs. They work for those who want to shrink our government’s capacity down to the bare minimum, but are wholly inadequate to solve the crises of our time—including, as Senator Warren describes, the need for universal child care and early-childhood education for all. You can read Senator Warren’s piece here.

We will be rolling out the rest of the April issue over the coming days.
