** How far can you go by bus?
------------------------------------------------------------

Hello

Thanks to your help, we managed to secure an extension to the England-wide £2 bus fare cap, meaning we now have until the end of June to save more money on bus trips.

With some journeys currently costing a quarter of the usual fare, it made us wonder, how far could you go for £2? What about £4, or £6? To find out, we've launched our epic bus journey competition.

For your chance to win £150 in National Trust vouchers - enough for a one year family membership granting you free entry to over 500 fabulous places, many accessible by public transport - you'll need to make your own epic bus journey between now and 2 May using up to three connecting buses and costing no more than £6. The person who manages to travel the furthest will win.

To launch the competition, Campaign for Better Transport's Jess, Sarah and Stephen took up the challenge and clocked up an amazing 177 miles between them! If you think you can go further, find out how to enter the competition below.

** Giving air passengers the full picture
------------------------------------------------------------

Right now, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) is consulting on what environmental information should be provided to people when they book flights. This is a chance for travellers to see the truth about the impact of aviation on the environment and make better informed travel choices.

We think travellers should be given clear information about:
* The climate impact of flying
* Whether they could make their journey by train instead – and what the comparative emissions would be
* How long their journey will REALLY take, including check-in and boarding, so they can make a fair comparison.

To help people respond to the consultation, we've produced a guide on our website with some examples of possible answers to the consultation questions. If, like us, you think it's time the airlines were made to come clean on the climate effects of aviation, please respond to the consultation by 7 April using the link below.

** Domestic flights
------------------------------------------------------------

On Saturday, the Government cut tax on domestic flights, a move which will cost £130 million in lost revenue AND result in an additional 410,000 domestic air passenger journeys a year ([link removed]) , roughly half of which will be as a result of people switching from trains or cars.

We think this sends the wrong signal about we should be travelling in the midst of a climate crisis so we're calling on the Government to reverse this cut and use the money to extend the £2 bus fare cap until the end of the year instead. This would continue to help bus passengers struggling to meet rising transport costs and provide a huge boost to the bus industry, as well as helping prevent an increase in domestic flights.
