Dear John,
Together, we've made some incredible progress in recent weeks. Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, supporters, and chapter leaders, we organized in cities and states to urge leaders to officially recognize Norooz and stand in solidarity with the movement for freedom in Iran.
As a result of this tireless work, we were able to get city councils and state leaders around the country to take action and pass proclamations or resolutions that support the Iranian people and their fight for freedom — during Norooz, a time for renewal and hope.
Here is a summary of some of our recent victories:
Seattle City Council officially recognized Norooz and stands in solidarity with the ongoing movement of Woman, Life, Freedom in Iran. Thank you to our Seattle chapter members for their organizing efforts.
Chicago City Council recognized Norooz and affirmed support for Iranians standing up to authoritarianism and promoting women's rights and freedom. A special thanks to our Chicago chapter members for their hard work.
Denver City Council recognized Norooz and supported Iranian people engaged in peaceful protest for their fundamental rights. Our appreciation goes to our Colorado chapter members for their efforts.
Santa Monica City Council acknowledged the bravery of the Iranian people, particularly women, who have protested against the oppressive regime. We extend our gratitude to our Los Angeles chapter members for their relentless organizing.
The Governor of Colorado recognized the courage of Iranian people, especially women, risking their lives in protest. Shortly after on March 20, the CO State House read our tribute to Norooz. We commend our Colorado chapter members for their dedication.
The Washington State House officially recognized Norooz, acknowledging the cultural contributions of Iranian-Americans. Thank you to our community in Washington State for their commitment.
In Texas, NIAC has been working with a strong coalition of national and local coalition partners on killing the racist bill Texas SB147. NIAC co-led a letter with 26 civil rights organizations urging the Texas legislature to not pass this bill. Our efforts helped delay the bill from leaving the committee.
These successes underscore the importance of grassroots organizing and engagement. While a single policy or law won't solve everything, consistently showing up for our community, staying organized, and demanding action from our elected officials brings meaningful change.
But our work is far from over. We are currently working on passing more local and state resolutions across the country and engaging with members of Congress on federal policy issues. In order to continue our progress, we need your support.
As we move into the second quarter of 2023, can you please make a 100% tax-free contribution to help us hit our goal so we can grow this advocacy and organizing work? [[link removed]]
