On April 18, Health Affairs Director of Digital Strategy Patti Kurtz hosts Elizabeth "Liz" Jurinka, former Special Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs, for a conversation about her work, her influences, and the choices she’s made as she’s climbed the ladder in the health policy world.
Jurinka is a 20-plus year veteran of
Washington’s health policy community and currently Operating Director, Healthcare Policy, for the investment firm Vistria.
She has navigated between senior posts in Congress and the White House, and played a role in some of the major health care legislative campaigns of the past two decades.
Prior to her work at Vistria, Ms. Jurinka served in President Biden’s White House as special assistant for legislative affairs and before that was the chief health care adviser to US Senator Ron Wyden (OR) and the Senate Finance Committee.
Join us for the professional development event to hear from Jurinka as she discusses her experience in advancing health policy including the Affordable Care Act and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and how she has been able to foster and maintain bipartisan relationships to improve health outcomes for all Americans.

The centerpiece of the Health Affairs Journal Club meeting in April is, "Personalized Letters And Emails Increased Marketplace Enrollment Among Households Eligible For Zero-Premium Plans."
Relying on two randomized controlled trials, the authors found that personalized letters and emails were low-cost, scalable tools for increasing enrollment in $0 and $1 premium Silver plans with cost-sharing subsidies in California’s ACA Marketplace – CoveredCalifornia.
However, even with the outreach intervention, absolute rates of enrollment in free and low-cost Silver plans remained low, suggesting a need for additional efforts to ensure individuals enroll in plans for which they are eligible, both in California and across the
country.
On April 26, please join author Andrew Fehrer of Covered California, for a detailed discussion of the paper's data, methods, and policy conclusions. Health Affairs Senior Editor Laura Tollen will host.
Date: Wednesday, April 26, 2023 Time: 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Eastern Access: Health Affairs Insiders
