Hey,

The Iowa caucus is less than a week away, and there isn't a single person of color in the top-five contenders. A lack of adequate representation in our government makes it that much harder to address the unique challenges Black communities are facing across the country.

The promise of our democracy is that our government would be by the people, for the people, and of the people. But right now our country has a real problem with representation.

We can't afford to slow down, team. There are hundreds of Black candidates running in elections in 2020, and we can't expect to strengthen our democracy unless we widen scopes outside of the presidential race. We have an end-of-month deadline coming up this Friday, and we need you to step up. Will you help us build Black political power in 2020?

As Senator Cory Booker said on the campaign trail, defeating Donald Trump is the floor, not the ceiling. America's lack of representation and issues with race predate Trump by centuries.

That's why we have to elect Black leaders at every level of government. Seventy-eight percent of Congress is still white – and this is one of the most diverse congresses in U.S. history.

Building Black political power and strengthening our democracy go hand-in-hand. If you're ready to start the work to elect the next Black wave, please chip in before the first end-of-month deadline of the year.

Thank you,
