We’re being inundated with stories daily about new abortion restriction attempts across the states. We wanted to take a few moments to recap:
- A group of 21 legislators in South Carolina proposed the death penalty for all women who receive abortion care.
- The Wyoming legislature passed a total ban on medication abortion, which the Governor then signed. The law was temporarily blocked by a judge, but it’s clear this fight isn’t going away.
- Iowa is working on its own bill that would not only outlaw almost all abortions in the state, but also effectively force public libraries, schools, and colleges to censor access to reproductive health information to the public.
- A new bill passed in Idaho outlaws what they’re calling “abortion trafficking,” or helping a minor cross the state border to obtain an abortion.
On top of all that, we’re still waiting for the outcome of the medication abortion case out of Texas, which could determine the legality of mifepristone throughout the country — even in states where abortion is protected, like California.
