Fossil fuel lobbyists are attempting to gut our Climate Act!

Last week, NY’s Senate and Assembly Energy Chairs introduced a terrible bill
(S6030/A6039) designed to undermine NY's Climate Act (CLCPA). This bill would change the way we account for climate warming methane and open the floodgates for the import of so-called Renewable Natural Gas known as RNG (that's methane from livestock excrement and landfills) from out of state.

Worse still, there's a movement afoot to slip provisions from this bill into the budget!

The good news is that the entire climate movement including Renewable Heat Now, NY Renews, Food and Water Watch, Sane Energy Project, the Sierra Club and many others has united against this! Today, we held a joint press conference calling on Governor Hochul and Senate and Assembly leadership to defend the Climate Act and not allow any of this language into our budget.

Here’s how you can help deliver that message:

instructions to call Hochul at 518 4747 8390, with suggested call script: hi my name is blank and I live in blank. I'm calling to ask governor hochul to defend the climate act and say no to s6030/a6039. methane gas, whether from fracking or manure, is an accelerant to climate change and has no place in New York's energy future

1) Send an e-mail to Governor Hochul and Legislators at this link.

2) Sign up for the NY RENEWS phone relay to make urgent calls to Governor Hochul and legislature leadership, telling them to reject bill S6030/A6039 (Parker/Barrett) and keep it out of the NY state budget.

3) Join Assemblymember Emily Gallagher, NY Climate Action Council Member Raya Salter, Esq., and guest moderator Bill McKibben Monday evening at 7pm for a virtual action party to #SaveTheCLCPA. We will come together to tell Albany that NY’s Climate Law is not for sale and that this 11th-hour gas industry effort to change how we track climate-wrecking methane emissions in New York State will not stand! Register at http://bit.ly/savetheclcpa, and please share this event with your networks.

Together, we can stop this attempt to undermine our Climate Act. We urge you to take action today. Time is of the essence. The New York State Budget is being negotiated at this very moment.

In solidarity,
