Last week, Representative Ayanna Pressley and I launched the first-ever
ERA caucus — 100 years after the Equal Rights Amendment was first
introduced and over half a century since it was passed by both chambers.

100 years is far too long for women, Black and brown folks, LGBTQ+ people,
and other marginalized groups to wait for gender equality under the
Constitution.

When the U.S. Constitution was first drafted, women, Black and brown
folks, and all marginalized groups were intentionally written out. The
absence of foundational equality allows discrimination to persist and
injustice to fester — it’s past time for Congress to Act.

In 24 simple words, the Equal Rights Amendment will add to our
constitution that ‘Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or
abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.’

This historic caucus — this multi-racial, mutli-generational grassroots
movement we are building in Congress and across the country — will be
exactly what we need to get the ERA across the finish line and achieve
constitutional equality for all.
