Weekly DSA Lunch
The steering committee and chapter members have been meeting regularly on Friday mornings to discuss chapter concerns, organizing, and coalition work. Since Friday mornings don't work for many people, we're moving our weekly meetup to Saturday lunch. Starting April 8, we will meet at 12 noon every Saturday for coffee/beer/lunch at Third Window Brewing Co. (406 E Haley St, corner of Laguna). This is meant to be a regular chance for us to hang out and talk in an informal setting. All are welcome!

Canvassing for CalCare
While a national Medicare for All bill is seeming hopeless in the current congress, the California Nurses Association has been spearheading the fight for universal single-payer healthcare in California: CalCare, currently before the California Assembly as AB 1690. Here in Santa Barbara, DSASB, in coalition with the Santa Barbara chapters of HealthCare for All - California (HCA-CA) and Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP), is working to organize educational/action canvasses Saturday mornings 10 AM - noon at the downtown farmers market. Last Saturday, we passed out flyers, got 70+ signatures on the CalCare petition, and signed 30+ postcards to Assemblymember Gregg Hart. It's really encouraging to see how many people are sick of being ripped off by the healthcare industry and are supportive of universal single-payer healthcare!
If you want to help with future canvasses, contact John Douglas at [email protected] for information. And then join us over at Third Window for lunch afterward!

UPS Strike
UPS workers are in the midst of contract negotiations, and they need public support leading up to a potential strike in August! DSA Labor has a solidarity campaign underway, and individual chapters have been asked to ensure that they are strike ready. Here is the resolution, but we would need someone to coordinate this. If you'd like to help spearhead our UPS solidarity efforts, reply to this email so we can get in touch!

Other things to look forward to
We'd like to revive DSA picnics once the weather is feeling more cooperative, hopefully in conjunction with allied orgs!
The Political Education Discussion Series will also be coming back! We'd like to discuss healthcare, housing, public banking, and anything else our members are working on. Let us know if there is a subject that is of interest to you.
Once some of the above is underway, we'll finally have another chapter meeting to talk about everything together.
And we're planning to have a widely publicized special meeting to welcome new members! Should be fun!

CA DSA
Our dues-paying membership recently approved sharing contact information with the statewide DSA-California. Thank you to all who responded to the poll! We should now be receiving statewide newsletters.
We also need a delegate to represent our chapter at statewide meetings. John Douglas has been our delegate to CA DSA until now, but this position would ideally be taken by someone new every year. Let us know if you're interested!

Helping organize
Finally, the steering committee needs more help planning all of this. Get in touch if you'd like to help in any capacity!
