In Missouri, Florida, Ohio, South Dakota, and Idaho, several proposals have been introduced to make it harder for issues to be put on the ballot — such as increasing the number of district signatures required to qualify an issue for the ballot, or raising the threshold for a measure to pass. AND for the second year in a row, the Mississippi state legislature has thrown out a proposal that would reinstate the ballot measure process for voters in their state.

These are just a few places where state legislatures are trying to make it more difficult for working Americans to bring about the change they want to see in their communities – and more are likely to follow suit.

That’s where we come in. We’ve been monitoring these attacks very closely and are gearing up to fight back through our Ballot Measure Rescue Campaign (BMRC), a campaign fund dedicated to protecting direct democracy from attacks on the ballot measure process.
