Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility

Dear Friend,

Every April, Responsibility.org activates around #AlcoholResponsibilityMonth while embracing our missions of eliminating underage drinking, eliminating drunk and impaired driving, and empowering adults of legal drinking age who choose to drink to do so responsibly. Using the phrase “Responsibility Starts with Me,” we recognize that it is our choices and decisions that keep us moving forward. This saying is tried and true, and the sentiment has so many meanings that are connected to what we do every day.

For this April, we are naming those things for which we are responsible and that keep us balanced as parents, colleagues, friends, and community members.

Some may use the term “Alcohol Awareness Month,” but we want to take it one step further. Let’s not settle for being aware, let’s take action to be mindful and responsible. Join us in recognizing alcohol responsibility month by participating in our events and initiatives below.

Responsibility starts with each of us. It starts with you, and we appreciate your dedication to learning about, participating in, and modeling responsible behaviors to live a balanced lifestyle. Please join us during Alcohol Responsibility Month for two important webinars.

April 13th at 12pm EDT

Mindful Mixology stems from mindful drinking and understanding your "why," and how you can drink (or not drink) alcohol on your own terms. It's also about understanding how much alcohol is in each drink and where you want to set your limit. We’ll discuss these topics and create no- and low-alcohol cocktails that are flavorful and delicious!

Join us as we look at alcohol responsibility through the eyes of a seasoned mixologist and expert on no-and low-alcohol cocktails who owned the "Best Cocktail Bar in America" and wrote the book on mindful mixology.  as we look at alcohol responsibility through the eyes of a seasoned mixologist and expert on no-and low-alcohol cocktails who owned the "Best Cocktail Bar in America" and wrote the book on mindful mixology.

Conversation led by Derek Brown, author, expert on no- and low-alcohol drinks, and former owner of the Columbia Room in Washington, D.C.

Join us as we reflect on 20 years of underage drinking prevention education in action with Ask, Listen, Learn. We will share the progress that has been made together over the last two decades to keep kids alcohol-free, and ways for parents to start conversations.

Our panelists will touch on the effectiveness of talking to kids as a form of harm reduction and the importance of modeling responsible behaviors to help kids live healthy lifestyles.

Speakers include:

  • Julie Foudy, soccer legend, author, and ESPN, NBC and Turner Sports commentator
  • Steve Mesler, Team USA gold medalist, CEO and co-founder of Classroom Champions, USOC Board Member
  • Dr. Leigh Parise, Responsibility.org Educational Advisory Board Member and co-founder of Classroom Champions

April marks the kick off of Ask Listen Learn's 20th Anniversary - we're proud to acknowledge 20 years of underage drinking prevention and empowering kids to say "YES" to a healthy lifestyle and "NO" to underage drinking.

Over the past 20 years, lifetime alcohol consumption among American teens has declined 33% proportionally from 62% in 2003 to 41% in 2022. Using the theme #Take20withKids, we will engage with parents, educators, partners, and communities to take time to initiate and continue prevention and wellness conversations and activities to keep kids substance-free.
