Spread seeds, spread life, and vote on April 4

Boozhoo John,

Spring is finally here – it is a time of rebirth, warmth, and new life. We plant the seeds of our ancestors – the plants who have been our teachers since Turtle Island [[link removed]] was first created.

"Turtle Island" is commonly used by Indigenous people to describe our Mother, the Earth, and is often referenced in Indigenous creation accounts. The turtle represents the island in the midst of water where humans have reemerged – supporting all living things.

Since the beginning, plants have taught us to give thanks to the earth, how to respect the world around us, and have sustained us through generations. We are connected to this land because it has provided for us and we honor that gift.

Just like spreading seeds, we must always think about creating life for the seven generations that come after us. That means voting to protect the land, the plants, the animals, and all that sustains us.

When we vote, we are choosing a better future for our people. So, vote on Tuesday, April 4 and vote for the seventh generation.

The April 4 election is tomorrow. Find the voting information you need here [[link removed]]:

First, check to see if you’re registered to vote here [[link removed]]. If you’re not registered, you can register in-person when you vote. Just make sure you have a proof of residence document for your registration (this can be a letter from a tribal government if it has your name and address on it) and a valid photo ID to vote (this can be a tribal ID).

Know what’s on your ballot. You can find a sample ballot on MyVote here [[link removed]].

If you haven’t yet returned your absentee ballot, you should plan to drop it off in-person or vote in-person at your polling location [[link removed]]. If you would like to drop off your absentee ballot in-person, you should contact your clerk to find out where you can return your absentee ballot. Contact your clerk if you have more questions [[link removed]].

When voting in-person on Election Day, Tuesday, April 4, make sure you bring a valid photo ID and know where your polling place is [[link removed]] (your polling location may have changed this year). All polling locations are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day.
