John,
Yesterday, we celebrated Lead Out Loud Day, encouraged LGBTQ+ people to run for office and shared videos from our elected officials. And today, I wanted to share some good news with you: over the last five years, LGBTQ+ representation in U.S. political offices has grown. And even better? Those representing us are more diverse than ever before. You can read our full report: Leading Out Loud: Growing LGBTQ+ Political Representation here!
But with more representation comes more demand, putting a strain on the services we offer. If we are going to expand our Candidate & Campaign Trainings, Victory Empowerment Fellowship and other programming to meet demand, we need supporters like you to pitch in. Will you make a donation today to power LGBTQ+ representation?
Despite anti-LGBTQ rhetoric on the campaign trail and other barriers in their way, LGBTQ+ people are running in record numbers - and they're winning in record numbers too! Take a look at how representation has skyrocketed over the past five years:
|
As the data shows, a record-breaking number of out LGBTQ+ elected officials are now serving in the U.S. government. They're more racially diverse than ever, with a 10% increase in people of color serving since 2019. LGBTQ+ women have seen a 60% increase in representation since 2019, and LGBTQ+ elected officials are more gender diverse, with more trans, non-binary, gender non-conforming people bravely running for office.
These are all incredibly positive trends, and we have to keep moving in the right direction. Trans people, especially trans people of color and trans men, are woefully underrepresented at all levels of government. As we work to close the representation gap, we must make sure all LGBTQ+ people are at the tables of power.
Victory Institute is working everyday to change the face of government - and to ensure no one is left out. Pitch in today to keep growing LGBTQ+ political power!
Thanks for standing us,
Elliot Imse
