Energy is the "master resource" because all parts of our economy are dependent on it. Indeed, abundant energy will make our goods and services a lot cheaper and more plentiful. The way to abundant energy isn't through encouraging the development of one source or another, but by adopting an "all of the above" policy that promotes fossil fuels, nuclear and renewables at the same time.
