This week: NAFCU builds awareness of CUs’ commitment to communities

While the House and Senate are in recess for the next two weeks, NAFCU will continue to fight for credit union priorities and raise awareness of the industry’s commitment to serving those in need of safe, affordable financial products and services by touting the credit union difference.

CU Cherry Blossom Race: $450k raised for Children’s Miracle Network

Sunday's Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run brought runners from all over the country to the Washington, D.C., Monument grounds for an annual competition that has helped raise more than $10.3 million for Children's Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals since credit unions became the event sponsors. This year's Credit Union Cherry Blossom event raised $450,000 for CMN Hospitals.

The second half of March was dominated by conversations around the recent failures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank. As NAFCU President and CEO Dan Berger noted on Bloomberg TV, credit union deposits remain safe and over 90 percent of deposits are insured.

NAFCU seeks input on impact of mortgage loan originator rules

NAFCU sent members a Regulatory Alert Friday highlighting the CFPB’s request for information (RFI) on the economic impact of Regulation Z’s Mortgage Loan Originator Rules. In the alert, NAFCU noted that the comments received by the bureau from this RFI may help the agency determine the future of loan originator rules.

NAFCU shares comments on CFPB’s nonbank orders registry rule

The CFPB in January issued a proposed rule to require covered nonbanks that are under final public orders from a federal, state, or local agency in connection with a consumer financial product or service to report the existence of such orders to a bureau registry. The bureau also proposed to require certain supervised nonbanks to submit annual written statements regarding compliance with each underlying order, signed by an attesting executive who has knowledge of the entity's relevant systems and procedures for achieving compliance and control over the entity's compliance efforts.

NCUA issues two prohibition orders in March

The NCUA issued two prohibition orders in March, prohibiting individuals previously associated with credit unions from any future participation in the affairs of a federally-insured depository institution.
