Williams Weekly

Dear Texans,

Last week was another busy week in D.C. addressing your top concerns and the important issues facing our nation. Read below for an update on my work serving you.

H.R. 1 – Lower Energy Costs Act

For 2 years, Biden has discouraged domestic energy production, forcing the U.S. to rely on foreign countries for oil and gas, driving up costs and shattering the supply chain. I'm proud to have voted yes for H.R. 1 to hold the Administration accountable and restore energy independence. Watch my floor speech in support of this critical legislation here.

Career and Technical Education

I am proud to have worked with my colleagues to introduce the bipartisan Supporting Small Business and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Act which aims to support small businesses in hiring graduates from CTE programs. Trade skills are important for our economy and we must do our part to support these entrepreneurs and small businesses. Please read my statement below and see the full release here.

Committee Hearings

The CFPB’s finalization of a new set of data collection rules in lending is harmful to small businesses across the country. I joined the Tax, Economic Growth, and Capital Access Subcommittee hearing to examine these rules that are attacking Main Street and putting relationship banking at risk. Watch here.

Later in the week the Rural Development, Energy, and Supply Chains Subcommittee met to discuss the important role small businesses play in domestic energy production. Listen to my remarks here.

Lastly, I joined the Financial Services Committee for a hearing on the federal regulators' response to recent bank failures. Banks are essential for growth, but burdensome regulations are crippling the bottom line for small businesses. During the hearing, I questioned federal banking regulators on how they plan to address the recent failures and provide transparency for allowing this to happen in the first place. Watch my line of questioning here.

Boots to Business Fort Hood Visit

Fort Hood is home to 37,000 patriots serving our country. This week, I joined a Boots to Business training event on base to hear from transitioning veterans on ways I can support them in Congress. This program is dedicated to helping members transition to the private sector, turning concepts into plans. During the visit we heard how the discipline and work ethic instilled through military service translates to the private sector. I am proud to lead efforts in the House to strengthen this program through legislation. Recently, I introduced bipartisan legislation to codify the Boots to Business (B2B) program that aims to assist transitioning service members to start and grow their own businesses. Also, this week I joined Mark Davis on 660 AM The Answer. Listen here.

On Saturday, I joined Jacqui Heinrich on Fox News Live. Watch here. We discussed important issues facing our nation, such as the weaponization of the justice system to target President Trump.
