BIG NEWS: I am honored to be appointed as Chair of the Florida Democratic Party’s Campaign Committee by Party Chair Nikki Fried.

During my time running for Congress in 2022, our campaign received virtually no support from the Florida Democratic Party - not even a phone call when we earned the backing of almost 70% of Democrats in our district. After meeting many great Democratic candidates on the campaign trail, I discovered that this was the frustrating experience of many campaigns running last year:
Our party was nowhere to be found.

If our own party won’t invest in our candidates, how can we expect Floridians to vote for us, let alone knock doors for or donate their hard-earned money to our campaigns?

It’s no wonder we as Florida Democrats had such a disastrous 2022. Last year, many Floridians didn’t even have a Democrat to vote for in numerous races.

11 out of 40 State Senate seats went uncontested.
35 out of 120 State House seats went uncontested.
Hundreds of local races for our school boards, city councils, and county commissions, went uncontested.

It’s no secret that we’re strapped for resources in Florida. There’s a lot we can do to support our candidates that won’t break the bank.

If we’re going to pave a long-term path to victory for Florida Democrats, it starts with recruiting and supporting strong candidates. We need more Democrats running for office to build a bench with the skills to win higher offices in the future. This isn't just about winning in 2024, or even during the 2020s. This is about building the infrastructure that will carry our party to victory in the decades to come.

That means we should be:

Recruiting Democratic candidates to run for every office in Florida including in our small rural counties like those here in Florida’s 3rd District
Collaborating with our local parties to identify and train future Democratic candidates
Hosting Candidate Recruitment Days across our state and virtually to connect with Democrats in all our communities
Ensuring our candidates qualify for the ballot by organizing petition gathering workshops

Guaranteeing consistent communication and support from the Campaign Committee and the wider Florida Democratic Party
Launching a candidate mentorship program to connect our first-time candidates with experienced elected officials and candidates
Providing our candidates with essential resources like messaging guides, sample websites, and voter outreach guidance

In 2024, the Florida Democratic Party Campaign Committee will make it clear to all Democrats with the courage to run for office: we see you, we’re rooting for you, and most importantly, we’ve got your back.
