Notes from Mike's Desk from the Weeks of March 20 – March 31, 2023

IN THE HOUSE

Thursday, our Weaponization Committee met to examine the Biden Administration’s censorship of truthful information on social media. Our hearing examined the case of Missouri v. Biden, and featured testimony from my friend, Louisiana AG Jeff Landry. Click here to watch my questioning.

Last week, our House Judiciary Committee released a report confirming what we've known for years: the DOJ and the National School Boards Association colluded to silence parents.

And last Thursday, I chaired a subcommittee hearing on this exact topic, examining the Biden Administration’s chilling of parents’ fundamental rights. The hearing made it abundantly clear that the Biden Administration has no tolerance for those with ideological beliefs different than their own.

The vilification of concerned parents by this Administration is a gross assault by the federal government, and our committee will continue to seek accountability and follow the facts where they lead.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

Thursday morning, a bipartisan majority of my colleagues voted to pass HR 1 – the Lower Energy Costs Act. This bill fast tracks American energy production, includes comprehensive permitting reforms, and rejects many of the harmful policies included in the misnamed “Inflation Reduction Act.”

This bill is a major win for Louisiana and for America’s energy independence.

It was a privilege to take this large group of pastors on a special tour of the Capitol Tuesday night.

Church services used to be held routinely in the Capitol during the founders’ era, and it is always moving to hear prayers and hymns echoing in the Rotunda. Click the photo below to watch this incredible video.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

Friday morning, I joined Fox News’ “America Reports” for a discussion about the ongoing weaponization of our government and justice system against conservatives. We will keep fighting around the clock to expose and defeat their perverse agenda and restore the rule of law. 

Last week, my colleagues on the House Judiciary Committee – as well as House Administration and House Oversight – sent a letter to NY DA Alvin Bragg demanding transparency regarding his inquiry into former President Trump. Many in New York are concerned that while their Soros-selected DA refuses to prosecute violent crimes and corrupt local politicians in his city, he's spending a ton of time and effort to prosecute a former president, on a novel legal theory, untested anywhere in the country, and one that federal authorities declined to

Last weekend, our family joined tens of thousands of other Louisianians at Barksdale Air Force Base for the Defenders of Liberty Air Show. It’s being reported that over 80,000 attended each day of the event! It was an exceptional show, and we’re so grateful to all who had a hand in the planning and execution of this event.
