In a new Health Policy Brief published this week, Dariush Mozaffarian outlines how measuring and addressing nutrition security can help achieve health and health equity.

In the brief, Mozaffarian discusses the evolution of health care, public health, and policy toward nutrition security. Key points in the brief include:

  • New screening tools and interventions for nutrition security should be centered on the assessment and consideration of health equity.

  • Population-level interventions include, among others, federal nutrition programs; nutritional standards for food procurement by worksites, schools, prisons, and other institutions; retail and restaurant labeling and guidelines; and tax credits to support local and regional food sector innovation and entrepreneurship.
