Earth Month officially starts today, John.
This Earth Month is particularly special to me because the theme is "Invest in our Planet." And here at 350.org, when we talk about investing in our planet, we mean investing in communities and PEOPLE.
Because at the very heart of our climate movement are everyday people who are taking actions — big and small — to turn around the climate crisis. Which brings me to why I'm writing to you today, John:
This Earth Month we are setting out to hit a new kind of goal for our organization: 3,500 donations from climate activists around the globe.
This goal is one of the most exciting ones that we have set because it is NOT about the amount you can donate...
This goal is NOT about the number of zeroes in your bank account...
...This goal IS about proving that every single investment — no matter how big or small — adds up to creating massive change for our planet. And there's truly nothing more powerful than that.
I know this isn't the first time I've asked you to donate, and in all honesty it won't be the last time. That's because our organization and our climate movement is funded in large part by climate activists just like you chipping in what they can.
I also recognize that not everyone is able to donate what they think is a big amount, and some of us may not be able to donate at all. That's okay — there are lots of ways to take action this Earth Month.
But if you are able to make a donation — whether it's $3.50 or $5 — your investment will be part of something huge and beautiful this Earth Month:
Thank you for hearing me out, John. We have a LOT of exciting things in store for Earth Month this year... stories from climate activists, some big challenges, and a whole lot of opportunities for you to take action.
Stay tuned for great stuff coming up soon.
In solidarity,
May Boeve
