This week, I took to the floor of the House to express my outrage and commemorate the victims of the tragic shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville that killed 3 children and 3 adults. Again, and again and again and again, we as a nation are forced to reckon with the senseless tragedies of children being murdered in their classrooms. My heart breaks for the families of the victims, their classmates, and the entire Nashville community. No parent should feel the pain of losing a child to gun violence.
We do not have to live like this. We are the only developed nation on earth that faces this problem. Which means there are solutions to put a stop to the violence that is devastating communities across America.
In response to this week’s shooting, I joined with my colleagues in a letter urging Speaker McCarthy to let the House vote on our legislation to ban assault weapons. Our children should not continue to pay for Congress’s inaction with their lives. We must act.
