John, I know we could all use some good news following the tragic events that unfolded in Nashville, TN, this week.

It's hard to process yet another mass shooting where young children are gunned down in a place that is supposed to be safe. And while the lack of federal action to protect our most vulnerable is infuriating, we are making progress on the state level.

On Tuesday, Colorado lawmakers advanced THREE life-saving gun safety bills that would raise the minimum age to purchase a firearm, institute waiting periods for firearm sales, and allow gun violence survivors to hold members of the gun industry accountable in court for their negligence.

These bills — which the governor is expected to sign in April — will tangibly reduce gun violence in the state. Gun violence impacted our communities at an astounding rate in 2022 — it was one of the deadliest years for gun violence in our nation’s history. And already in 2023, we’ve seen more than 100 mass shootings across the nation.
Faced with this reality, Brady Colorado and concerned residents across the state took action on behalf of their community, driving calls to elected officials and providing testimony to uplift the stories of gun violence survivors. Their efforts have culminated in advancing three life-saving gun safety bills.

And the importance of these victories cannot be understated, John. It reaffirms that even when Congress is gridlocked thanks to NRA-backed politicians, we can overcome their inaction and make real, meaningful progress on the state and local levels.

As we speak, Brady is tirelessly working in Maryland, Washington State, Michigan, California, and Nevada to pass laws to ban assault weapons, expand extreme risk laws, and so much more. The bottom line is that we refuse to let Congress stall our progress, and if we can create this change in Colorado, we can do it nationwide.

But we cannot do this work alone — and that’s why I’m reaching out to you today, John. Brady is a survivor-led organization that has a long history of making progress on the state and local levels. Last year, we passed over 30 gun safety laws across the country and we’re not done. Will you make a gift right now to support Brady’s efforts to replicate this success and create safer communities all across the country? [[link removed]]

“Aren’t you guys tired of covering this?”

Those were the powerful words of gun violence survivor and advocate Ashbey Beasley [[link removed]] in response to the tragic shooting at Nashville's Covenant School this week. Beasley survived the 2022 Highland Park, IL, shooting and was in Nashville visiting her family.

She speaks for all Americans who are sick of watching our children being gunned down in preventable acts of gun violence — and this isn’t the first time she’s spoken out. Since the Highland Park massacre, Brady has joined Beasley on Capitol Hill to demand lawmakers ban deadly assault weapons and expand Brady Background Checks to cover all gun sales. In the courts, Beasley shared her story to be featured in our joint amicus brief supporting Highland Park’s life-saving ban on assault weapons.

All of us at Brady are behind Beasley in her mission to prevent gun violence, protect our children, and save lives. Her fierce dedication to gun violence prevention is an inspiration — and we ask that you join us in supporting her life-saving efforts. [[link removed]]
