These first few months of the year have shown us that conservatives are only getting stronger and more efficient in attacking our DAs.
They’re not only spreading misinformation and fear mongering, but also creating laws to take prosecutorial powers away from progressive DAs and put them in the hands of conservative officials.
To be honest, I hoped I’d see more outrage in response to the weight of these attacks. These laws could wipe out progressive prosecutors ENTIRELY.
But while this is happening, I’m seeing a drop in our fundraising as we’re edging closer to our end of quarter deadline, which is tonight at midnight.
So if I’m being completely honest with you, John, I’m worried. BEYOND worried.
There’s way too much at stake here for us to take the next few hours ahead of our fundraising deadline lightly.
The work that we do in electing and defending civil rights-minded DAs is going to have a direct, real impact on people’s lives. I know this because our Real Justice-backed DAs are ALREADY creating real change in communities across the country.
They stand firm in the face of hateful rhetoric and protect the reproductive rights of women and transgender people.
They are bold in holding cops accountable when they commit crimes and kill our brothers and sisters.
They ensure that police departments aren’t locking people up for low-level nonviolent offenses, decreasing mass incarceration.
But police unions and conservative billionaires HATE to see this, so they spend wild — and I mean WILD, we are talking millions — amounts of money on recall campaigns and bogus reasoning to take them out of office to stop our work.
And the fact is, we’re one of the only organizations fighting back against this and doing this hard work.
It makes our work even harder when we don’t have mega-donors sending large checks constantly.
We’re relying solely on you, John. Grassroots, people-powered contributions continue to be the backbone of fighting back against attacks on our DAs nationwide.
I know times are tough right now, but I’ve seen what we’ve been able to accomplish this past few years in the most difficult of moments, and I’m certain we’ll be able to raise the funds necessary to continue this incredible work.
I believe in this team. I believe in YOU, John.
