I’m running for Congress because I want to see a world where people don’t just survive, but can thrive.

Dear friend,

Imagine a society where everyone has their basic needs met. Food, shelter, healthcare, and education are available to all. Now that’s a society with true equal opportunity.

My name is Maebe Pudlo, I’m the three-term treasurer of the Silver Lake Neighborhood Council here in Los Angeles, and I’m running for Congress in CA-30 to make this vision a reality.

I’m a longtime member of this community, and a working-class person who will look out for other working-class people in office. My progressive politics take a bottom-up approach, bringing hands-on policy rooted in the community’s needs and implementing it at higher levels of government.

I’ve worked with people experiencing homelessness for over a decade, from volunteering at shelters to being the homeless liaison on the Neighborhood Council. I know that a compassionate, housing-first approach, with permanent supportive housing and permanent supportive services, is the only solution to this crisis. Universal healthcare would also go a long way in getting people back on their feet.

I’m also a drag queen—the first drag queen elected to public office in the US when I ran for Silver Lake Neighborhood Council in 2019. But while drag is what I do (one of my several jobs), trans is who I am. I am trans non-binary and my pronouns are she/her/they/them.

There are over 1.5 million trans people in the United States today, but there has never been a trans person elected to Congress. In a time when trans people and youth are being attacked by politicians all over the country, we need at least a modicum of representation in the halls of power to assert our humanity and affirm our right to exist.

We already have a strong base of support here in this district, earning over 60,000 votes against a 20-year incumbent in 2022. The voters believed in this anti-war, community-first campaign, and with the incumbent running for Senate in 2024, I am now one of the frontrunners for this open seat.

But we’ll need your support to win.

Before I ask you to contribute to this campaign, there’s a few things you should know about me:

I’m running on an intersectional humanitarian platform that’s designed to protect, advocate, and legislate for my community. That includes both my broader Los Angeles community and the country that I live in.

Protect: We need to protect marginalized communities, protect women, protect immigrants, and protect the environment.

Advocate: We need to advocate for diversity, inclusion, and representation.

Legislate: We need to legislate for progressive action.

My policy priorities include universal healthcare, housing for all, environmental justice, tuition-free college, LGBTQIA+ rights, racial justice, reproductive rights, and more.

I want to see a world where people don’t just survive, but thrive. Running in one of the most progressive parts of the country, we deserve a representative who agrees.

If you can, please donate today. The next few weeks are crucial for this campaign to show we can fundraise to win—we don’t take any corporate PAC or special interest money, so we need your grassroots support.

Let’s win this seat for the people, and for our communities.

In solidarity,

Maebe
