Friend, for years now, millions of people across the Horn of Africa have been suffering through the most intense drought of their lives. And now, with conditions continuing to look unusually dry, it is likely that the region is about to suffer its sixth failed consecutive rainfall season.
Your emergency donation could help women like Losikiria, a mother of three in Lochorepetet Village who is currently pregnant with her fourth child. Due to the intense drought, she often goes days without food — and, despite not having the energy to do so, has no other choice but to walk over six miles to get to the nearest health center for her prenatal checkups.
Your emergency donation could help women like Akure, a heavily pregnant woman who reported experiencing extreme hunger and dizzy spells after her livestock perished from the overwhelming drought. She is just one of the 134,000 pregnant or breastfeeding women in Kenya who reported to be acutely malnourished and in need of treatment due to the faminelike conditions.
Through mobile health clinics, emergency obstetric and newborn care facilities, motorcycle ambulance systems, the distribution of dignity kits and more, UNFPA is providing aid to people in even the most hard-to-reach locations. But, as millions across the Horn of Africa prepare for what will likely be another failed rainy season, we MUST keep our lifesaving services in the region funded.
Your gift will deliver lifesaving sexual and reproductive health care to women and girls in more than 150 countries around the world. Thank you for being there for every woman and girl.
