John,

Across the nation, voter registration and civic engagement organizations like ours are facing budget shortfalls that may force some of us to scale back on the type of crucial year-round voter engagement and education that has the power to expand and transform the electorate.

Some organizations have already been forced to make drastic spending cuts or even lay off their staff.

While we are not having to make such decisions, the budget shortfall my team has been telling you about is all too real.

As expected in an “off year,” we are experiencing reduced funding, and if we can’t make up at least a portion of that shortfall by the end of the quarter, there could be drastic consequences. With just $1,853 left to reach our goal, I’m asking you to donate $10 before midnight to help us close that gap and continue expanding the electorate.

It takes year-round work and resources to register and engage those who have been functionally and politically disenfranchised throughout this nation’s entire history.

In 2022, we delivered 20,000 voter registration forms to boards of election across the Commonwealth, but so much is left to do, and the expectations are greater. Our democracy and our freedom to vote remain under assault, and this year’s elections are crucial to defending them. As a voting rights organization, access to the ballot and standing up against any barriers that would disproportionately affect the communities we center is our top priority. If we are going to have a direct impact in the 2024 election year, we must sustain this work in 2023.

If these elections don’t go well, we won’t only risk losing our recent progress toward a more reflective democracy in PA, we’ll risk our democracy fully collapsing under the pressure of efforts to keep our votes from being counted and our results from being certified. Will you donate $10 right now to help us keep up the funding we need to defend our democracy?

The New Pennsylvania Project
-------------------------------------------------------

The New Pennsylvania Project was founded in May 2021 to expand Pennsylvania’s electorate, so it reflects the Commonwealth’s demographically changing population. In the next four years, NPP will engage and empower young residents and those living in underrepresented immigrant communities and communities of color. We register communities to vote, provide civic education about the issues that matter in their neighborhoods, and mobilize Pennsylvanians to vote in every election.
