We cannot win a majority in the Texas State House without competing aggressively.

Friends,

Texas State House District 28 has been a GOP stronghold for decades. Trump won it by double digits, but the landscape is changing. Last night, Eliz Markowitz beat the district’s historic Democratic average performance by 4 points in a difficult electoral environment of a special election which heavily favored Republicans.

Let’s be clear: This district has always been an aggressive target in the Texas State House. But we cannot win a majority in Texas without competing in districts like HD-28. We simply cannot take the chamber by only investing in races we know Democrats can win.

We are proud to be at the frontline of this battle in Texas, putting Republicans on defense and making them fight for every vote. Since 2018, we’ve helped flip 12 seats in the Texas State House—helping Democrats come within reach of retaking the key chamber in November.

With likely 40 congressional districts redrawn in 2021, Texas is the crown jewel of redistricting. Chip in to help us keep up the fight to reclaim the chamber to prevent the GOP’s gerrymander of the 2nd largest state again.

Yesterday’s results don’t change the fact that there is a clear, competitive path to the majority for Democrats in the Texas State House this November. We only need 9 seats to retake the chamber in 2020. HD-28 isn’t even in the top 15 most competitive targets.

Texas Republicans should be very worried, especially for when they face a presidential year general electorate. This is our moment to reclaim our democracy to avert another decade of a GOP-gerrymandered Congress.

What we do in the next 9 months will shape our democracy for the next generation. Help us expand our programs as we continue to take on tough GOP turf and expand the map for Democrats.

Let’s keep up the fight for the Texas State House. We’re proud to continue to hold Republicans' feet to the fire and force them to compete in districts they’d assumed would be safe.

Thanks for being with us,

Vicky
