My heart aches for the people of my cherished home state as we all process this week’s unfathomable tragedy. I pray for the families who are a part of The Covenant School community in the wake of this excruciating loss, and I want them to know they are not alone. No one should ever experience the type of grief they will navigate for the rest of their lives.
It’s difficult to comprehend why someone would commit such a heinous act, especially against innocent children. We must work together to learn more about mental illness and the issues that lead to this type of senseless violence.
As we continue to uncover more about the events that led up to this tragedy, I believe transparency is vital. I have faith that Tennessee law enforcement will handle this investigation with the utmost care and consideration. This is the best way to provide the answers these families and the entire country deserve. I will continue to have important conversations with my colleagues and friends on both sides of the aisle to find common ground.
Today and always, I want you to know my thoughts are with those who are grieving. May you find comfort in knowing that folks across Tennessee are here to love and support you.
America needs a revival. My hope is that we can all work together to make this country a safe place for future generations.
