Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn   My friend, Here's a quick update on what I've been working on during a busy few weeks in Washington, DC, Staten Island and Southern Brooklyn... HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HILL House Republicans passed two of our top priorities heading into the 118th Congress, the Lower Energy Costs Act and our Parents Bill of Rights. Both bills bring us one step closer to providing Americans with a strong economy, a safe nation, an accountable government, and a future built on freedom. I was excited to welcome students from the Brooklyn School of Inquiry to the Capitol as part of their field trip to Washington, DC. BSI is a fantastic Gifted & Talented school that provides students from all across New York City with a hands-on learning environment to excel in their studies. It’s always great to engage our young people who visit the Capitol because they are the future generations who will work to preserve our nation. Learning civics is important for our students so they can understand the challenges our country has faced throughout our history and appreciate the freedom and opportunity our unique republic provides. I had an opportunity to question former Centers of Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield about the origins of COVID-19. He confirmed our suspicions that COVID was developed in and leaked from a lab - likely with the help U.S. tax dollars. I also joined the House in unanimously voting to declassify all records pertaining to the origins of COVID-19 to prevent a pandemic of this scale from occuring ever again. WATCH WATCH As someone who was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, and attended Fort Hamilton High School, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen knows our district is home to hardworking Americans who are trying to make ends meet. I had a chance to question her about what the Biden Administration is doing to reign in our national debt and provide Americans with financial relief during a time of record-high inflation. IN THE DISTRICT Thanks to an influx of federal infrastructure investment into our ports and waterways, New York City's maritime industry is growing and thriving. I joined a dozen companies that work in New York Harbor and along the East Coast to promote good-paying job opportunities right here on Staten Island for students right out of high school. If you're able-bodied and you want to work, maybe the maritime industry is right for you! READ MORE I joined New Jersey Rep. Josh Gottheimer in announcing the creation of our bipartisan Anti-Tax Congestion Caucus to combat New York's proposed congestion pricing scheme. The MTA and the Federal Highway Administration are jamming through a flawed Environmental Assessment that not only makes our government vulnerable to a lawsuit but further shows how politicized the program's implementation has become. We established this caucus to show officials from the city, state, and federal levels that if they irresponsibly proceed with this scheme, there's a unified, bipartisan effort in Congress working to stop it. READ MORE I visited the Community Health Center of Richmond to announce a federal grant for the center's Healthy Start Initiative. With the funding, the center will be able to increase its capacity to serve more pregnant women in our community and support new mothers and infants through key milestones in the childbirth process. Where a person lives should not dictate the level of care they receive and the medical professionals at Community Health Center of Richmond go above and beyond to ensure all Staten Islanders have equal access to high-quality patient-centered care! READ MORE Not only was I proud to lead the fight to save our Brooklyn VA hospital from closure, but now I'm working to ensure federal investments are being made to modernize it. I had the pleasure of meeting with new NY Director Timothy Graham about the completion of the hospital's new operating suite, upcoming capital projects, increasing hospital staffing, and improving care for our veterans. IN THE NEWS Malliotakis to Begin Accepting Applicants for 2023 Congressional High School Art Competition My office will begin accepting applicants for the 2023 Congressional Art Competition which is open to all high school students in New York's 11th Congressional District. READ Staten Island, NYC officials demand a ‘fair share’ of EPA funding for storm infrastructure New York City is at a disadvantage when it comes to New York State’s funding distribution policies, according to Mayor Eric Adams. Adams responded on Wednesday to a letter from several Staten Island elected officials in which they urged him to apply for grant funding recently announced by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to upgrade New York City’s essential water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure. ... “It’s disheartening to learn from the city that the state is placing an unfair cap on the amount of money municipalities can receive at $10 million, which means New York City will receive less than 10% of the pot despite accounting for 44% of the state’s population. I will be working with my colleagues at the state level to push the Hochul Administration to review this policy so we can receive our fair share of funding.” READ Washington DC Office 351 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 (202) 225-3371 Staten Island Office 1698 Victory Blvd Suite 2L Staten Island, NY 10314 (718) 568-2870 Brooklyn Office 7716 Third Ave. Brooklyn, NY 11209 (718) 306-1620   [link removed] Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11) | 351 Cannon House Office Building, Washington, DC 20515 Unsubscribe [email protected] Update Profile | Constant Contact Data Notice Sent by [email protected]
