Now is a critical moment in the impeachment trial in the Senate. With John Bolton’s manuscript confirming Trump’s criminal activities, it is more important than ever that Republican Senators drop the farce and start calling witnesses. The more pressure the Senators face, the more likely they are to break ranks and call witnesses.
We also need to keep our own Senators committed to holding Trump accountable. The LA Times yesterday published an article suggesting that Senator Feinstein was wavering on her commitment to continue the impeachment trial, saying that she hadn’t decided whether to acquit him. She backtracked and said Trump’s “actions were wrong,” but clearly we need to keep up the pressure.
Call Senator Feinstein ([link removed][UNIQID]) and tell her:
I urge my Senator to hold Trump accountable and fight for a fair impeachment trial. The Senator should push for witnesses and evidence. A trial without these is nothing but a kangaroo court designed to make the president above the law.
It’s tempting to make a call to red state Senators, but you shouldn’t call Senators from other states. When they receive out-of-state calls, it is easier for them to dismiss legitimate voter concern from their constituents as astroturfing. Instead, you can help by asking voters in red states to call their own Senators.
Sign up with Indivisible National to make calls to voters in red states. ([link removed][UNIQID])
And, join Indivisible’s IndivisiTexting team, headed up by one of Indivisible SF’s own dedicated members! We text into red states, not only about impeachment, but for GOTV as well! Sign up here ([link removed][UNIQID]) (the link is for Sen. McSally-related texts, but they’ll set you to texting for the most needed causes!) And, sign up for the training ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
** It’s official… Get-Out-The-Vote season has begun!
------------------------------------------------------------
And it’s already wild. First, some bad news: our Secretary of State Alex Padilla has conditionally certified ([link removed][UNIQID]) voting machines in LA County that are insecure and unintuitive to use. At Indivisible SF, we demand secure elections using paper ballots. We joined other California Indivisibles in signing a letter to Alex Padilla not to certify insecure voting machines, and to demand changes.
The good news is, you don’t have to use voting machines to vote in California. Your vote-by-mail ballot is a secure paper ballot. You can drop it in your mailbox on or before March 3rd or at your polling place on March 3rd. If you have friends in LA County, encourage them to register as a permanent vote-by-mail voter and to use their vote-by-mail ballots!
We also need to make sure that people are registering to vote around the country, especially in red districts and states. Since last year, we’ve been running our Pints & Postcards event with a lot of success. We send postcards, letters and voter registration forms to states like Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana and more. Mail correspondence was proven to improve Democratic turnout in 2018—so we’re doing it again. Writing to voters takes a lot of money and volunteers - that’s where you come in!
* Donate to our Pints & Postcards Fundraiser - we’re raising money to pay for stamps, envelopes, printer ink, and more! Donate on Action Network ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
* Sign up as a Facilitator to help our stalwart team leaders hold more Pints & Postcards events. Facilitators download and print batches of letters, check in with the staff of the venue on the day of the event, and coordinate with other electoral groups for maximum effectiveness. Anyone interested can contact our Pints & Postcards team leader @Jonah directly through Slack, or at
[email protected] (mailto:
[email protected]) .
* Come to our next Pints & Postcards event at Standard Deviant on Sunday, February 9th! RSVP here. ([link removed][UNIQID])
And finally, it’s now time to start canvassing! Swing Left SF is planning a trip to Modesto (CA-10) in late February to GOTV for the primary elections. We want Representative Josh Harder, whom we fought so hard for in 2018, to come in strong in the primary. Make a plan to come to Modesto to knock on doors and get folks to the polls. Details and RSVP here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
One last thing: we have a long term agenda to secure our elections and give more power to the voters. An important part of that plan is overturning the Citizens United decision. Read our deep dive ([link removed][UNIQID]) about our friends at Move To Amend ([link removed][UNIQID]) and how you can help them pass a constitutional amendment that overturns Citizens United and prevents corporations from buying our politicians!

We sent a formal letter to our MoC’s criticizing them for funding endless war. At the end of last year, Congress passed a deeply flawed NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act). This included large increases in overall military spending that appear to have broken the long-standing “parity” agreement requiring equal increases in domestic spending.
Senator Feinstein and Representative Speier voted “aye” for this extremely dangerous bill. Senator Harris did not cast a vote. Neither did Speaker Pelosi, as is regular for the Speaker - but she did nothing to quell the legislation.
Read our letter to our MoC’s on our website ([link removed][UNIQID]) . So far, we have not had a response from any MoC’s.

Wednesday, Feb 12, 2pm–4pm: Register New Citizens to Vote at Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Join Democracy Action volunteers in registering new citizens to vote following the monthly swearing-in ceremony at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Welcoming new citizens to the United States by giving them the tools to fully activate their new freedom to vote is one of the most rewarding things we do. NOTE: there is only an afternoon session available on this day. Please arrive no later than 2pm to allow time for training and volunteer distribution. Sessions usually end by 4pm. RSVP here ([link removed][UNIQID]) .
