Dear John,
I’m writing to you today from Minnesota after a busy, busy week in DC! It’s great to be back home to work in the district for a couple of weeks. Here is this week’s update on the last four days in DC.
This week, we took up an energy bill that unfortunately I could not support. When we passed the Inflation Reduction Act this past summer, we saw that we can make progress on our climate goals – and do so in a common sense way. That bill took decisive action to make our energy grid more resilient, ensure that billion-dollar oil companies are paying their fair share, allocate the largest investment ever in homegrown biofuels and reduce families' energy costs by hundreds of dollars each year.
But the bill on the floor this week specifically tried to roll back that progress, and in a heavily partisan way. We know that there are so many bipartisan, common sense solutions out there to help advance our climate and energy goals: securing the year-round sale of E15 and expanding biofuel production – in addition to some common sense permitting reform. I’ll keep working to get this right.
You can watch my floor speech opposing H.R. 1 here.
Here's what else I was up to this week:
Meeting with Minnesota Federal Prison Officers Every day, the officers at the federal prisons in Minnesota work to help keep our prisons safe. This week, I had the opportunity to thank a few of them out in DC – and have a productive conversation on how Congress can best support them in their critical work.
Supporting Minnesota’s Ethanol Producers Minnesota’s ethanol production supports our family farmers, lowers gas prices and increases our energy independence. I’m glad to be able to count on Minnesota Corn Growers as a partner in the work to support our family farmers. So great to see you all in DC!
Speaking with MN-02 Principals
Our teachers and school administrators do a tremendous amount to help our Second District students succeed. This week, I got the chance to say hello to a few of our dedicated principals from around the district out in DC.
Behind the scenes with Rep. Craig:
It’s always great to welcome a Minnesotan to DC – especially when it’s my good friend and former Chair of the House Ag Committee, Collin Peterson. Got to spend some time with Collin and listen to his band play in the Capitol this week – what a great time!
That’s my update for this week. Have a great weekend – I’m hoping there isn’t enough snow to plow!
Until next time,
Angie Craig
