Hello Friends,

We have had a busy few weeks here in Washington fighting for the people of New Hampshire. From expanding access to mental health support and services to keeping our kids safe in school and lowering the cost of energy, it’s an honor to bring New Hampshire voices to Congress.

It was great listening to what our public health experts had to say to help end these crises.

This week, my Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force hosted a roundtable to discuss the ongoing mental health and substance use disorder crises and what steps Congress can take to end this epidemic. 

Industry experts Dr. Rahul Gupta, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and Dr. Joshua Gordon, Director of the National Institute of Mental Health, joined to share their expertise and vision for a path forward. 

During the roundtable, we had a productive conversation about our Task Force’s efforts to address these crises, including expanding access to suicide prevention resources, investing in youth mental health, and investigating the impact of social media on mental health.

My co-chairs and I are committed to finding bipartisan solutions to tackle these issues.

Our roundtable was a great example of how we can bring together Members from both sides of the aisle with experts to get to the bottom of these issues and develop real solutions.

We will continue to utilize every tool at our disposal to stop the flow of dangerous and illegal substances into our country, hold illicit drug distributors accountable, and address the underlying demand for these dangerous drugs.

Earlier this week, I joined the Washington Post Live with my friend and colleague, Rep. John Curtis (R-UT), to discuss the work of our Bipartisan Ski and Snowboard Caucus to address climate change, reduce carbon pollution, and streamline permitting for clean energy projects.  

In a divided government, it’s critical that Republicans and Democrats work together to get things done, including protecting the winter sports we know and love. Our Caucus is proof that while we may disagree on policy particulars, it’s possible to find common ground and tackle the big issues facing our country.

I spoke on the House Floor in opposition of this legislation.

This week, I voted against legislation that would raise energy prices in New England while giving handouts to the oil and gas industry.

We know our climate is changing. We know clean energy is the lowest-cost option. And we know Big Oil is making record profits while collecting billions of dollars in taxpayer subsidies. Yet, the Republicans’ proposal dismisses these facts, guts our environmental and public health laws, and ignores the climate crisis. 

We must do better to lower energy costs and build a more resilient, sustainable energy future.

We must continue working to make health care more affordable.

Also, this week, I questioned experts in the Energy and Commerce Committee about how we can expand access to vital health benefits and increase cost transparency so that people can make informed decisions about their health. 

Granite Staters deserve to know how much a trip to the hospital or the doctor’s office costs and what they are being charged for – I will continue working to ensure that is the case. 

Health care costs are unaffordable for millions of Americans — we can and must do better.

Every life lost to gun violence is a tragedy.

This week, our nation was shocked by another horrific school shooting.

Three school administrators, Katherine Koonce, Mike Hill, and Cynthia Peak, and three children, Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney, lost their lives to senseless acts of gun violence in Nashville, TN.

As our nation reels from this tragedy, we must resolve ourselves to do more than just send thoughts and prayers.

Weapons of war have no place on our streets or in our communities. These machines are designed to inflict as much damage as possible and have been used in ten of the 17 deadliest mass shootings since 2015.

We must pass the Assault Weapons Ban and protect our nation’s kids. We cannot keep failing them.
