# [#]John,

I want you to know that despite having a (temporary) narrow Republican House majority in this new Congress, my Democratic colleagues and I are working harder than ever to tackle the climate crisis, and we’re making progress.

I met with Biden administration officials at the White House this week as a member of our Regional Leadership Council - to make sure our historic investments in clean energy and climate action from the last Congress are implemented quickly and effectively.

I once again introduced legislation to permanently ban oil and gas drilling in federal waters off the West Coast. It’s long past time to shift our investments to safe, renewable energy sources – we cannot allow fossil fuel producers to profit hand over fist while our oceans and fisheries, coastal communities, economies, and planet suffer the consequences of widespread pollution.

I’m co-sponsoring a climate resiliency bill that would help communities invest in restoration projects to protect against the threat of climate change, including responding to extreme weather and disasters.

And, just this past week, I was appointed Chair of the new Congressional Progressive Caucus Accelerating Clean Energy (ACE) Task Force to identify and support policies that will help streamline the delivery of clean energy projects and grid improvements while upholding environmental justice as a core value.

As my House Democratic colleagues and I push to realize the green jobs and other transformational benefits of clean energy and climate action, the Republican Majority is unfortunately pushing in the opposite direction. With their terrible H.R. 1 bill (the “Polluters over People Act”), they keep showing us that their priorities - doubling down on planet-killing fossil fuels, denying the climate crisis, stoking culture wars, glorifying insurrectionists, and protecting billionaires and huge corporations from paying taxes - are reckless, extreme, and badly out of touch.

Despite this challenging political landscape, I am focused on finding common ground whenever possible to keep getting things done - but without compromising core values or yielding to extremism and obstruction.

If you support my work in Congress, please consider helping us post a strong showing in our first quarterly FEC report of 2023! The deadline for that report is midnight TONIGHT! Can I count on your support in this major test of our strength? [[link removed]]

Last year, Democrats made historic progress with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, the largest-ever federal investment in climate action. And even though we are (temporarily) in the minority, we are not letting up on our fight for the issues that will affect the core of our democracy and the future of our planet.

Onward,

Jared
