Dear Friend,
Today is Transgender Day of Visibility, an opportunity for us to celebrate the lives of trans people and raise awareness of the struggles the trans community faces all over the world.
In nearly 80 countries, it is either illegal or very dangerous to identify as transgender. Unfortunately, we’ve also seen an increase in anti-trans legislation here in the U.S. with nearly 500 bills being introduced in states across the country. Our nation has been a beacon of freedom for trans asylum seekers, where they can safely arrive and be their authentic selves – we must continue to be that beacon and protect trans asylum seekers.
This Trans Day of Visibility, we’d like to share with you the story of Terry, a trans man from Mexico who came to the U.S. to build a better life and have a family of his own.
This Trans Day of Visibility, we stand in solidarity with all trans people who deserve to live freely as their authentic selves without fear of persecution, no matter their country of origin.
Happy Trans Day of Visibility,
Immigration Equality
