Maria,* a psychologist from Ukraine who is working with Save the Children in Poland, recently shared her experience working with children who have fled the ongoing war:
“The trauma I am seeing in children is terrible. … I work with several very young boys who, when they hear certain words that remind them of the war or of their hometown … they fall silent and just stare into nowhere.”
John, for children facing ongoing conflict in Ukraine, Syria and Yemen, living through brutal natural disasters like the recent earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria, or suffering other traumatic events, surviving is just the beginning. As we work to meet children’s immediate needs when crises strike, we cannot lose sight of the long-term impact on their mental health.
To ensure we can continue meeting children’s needs in the face of unimaginable challenges, we set an ambitious goal to raise $300,000. And thanks to a generous group of donors who have contributed to a matching gift fund, every dollar you give toward our goal will be MATCHED.
With the proper resources and psychological care, these children can recover. With your support, we can connect more children with trained professionals like Maria, who will help them find ways to express their feelings, overcome their trauma and have the hope of a brighter future.
