John,
Yesterday, Donald Trump was indicted in Manhattan. He was the first president to be impeached twice, and now he’s the first former president to be criminally indicted.
Donald Trump's indictment is not the attack on our democracy that he and his supporters are claiming it to be. In reality, this accountability makes our democracy stronger by proving that no one is above the law.
The charges in New York are the first ever brought against him, but they will not be the last. Donald Trump is facing a potential federal indictment and a potential indictment in Georgia, both related to his attempts to steal the 2020 election. Plus, he’s being investigated for unlawful possession of government documents.
It’s important that we continue this momentum and keep up the pressure to make sure that Trump is held accountable wherever and whenever he has committed crimes. Donate to CREW’s efforts to hold Trump accountable →

BREAKING: Trump indicted in New York
John,
One of Donald Trump’s many infamous scandals has finally led to his indictment, following a long and thorough criminal investigation by the Manhattan district attorney.
Former President Trump has been charged in the hush-money case related to his alleged affair with adult film actress Stephanie Clifford (aka Stormy Daniels). Although we do not yet know the details of the charges, they may include allegations that he violated New York state law by improperly categorizing a $130,000 hush money payment as “legal expenses” on company records.
CREW supported an investigation into this hush money payment from the start.
On March 8, 2018, CREW requested that the Department of Justice and the Office of Government Ethics investigate whether the payment made by Trump lawyer Michael Cohen constituted a loan which Trump intended to repay and which he would then have been required to report on the public financial disclosure form he filed.
The president has an obligation to be transparent and truthful about his financial interests, and failing to do so is not just an ethics violation, but also a serious criminal offense.
CREW’s mission is to hold anyone who breaks the law accountable, even a former president. Help us continue our work to hold Trump and other politicians accountable with a donation today →

Trump has been trying for years now to avoid consequences for his actions. But today, he’s finally being held accountable.
CREW has filed several complaints and requests for investigation related to the hush money payments, as well as complaints related to Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election. We also released a comprehensive report outlining the many crimes that Trump has likely committed since he first began running for office.
This is a great step forward toward holding Trump accountable, but we have a lot of work to continue. It was the first set of criminal charges against Trump, but it shouldn’t, and we believe won’t, be the last. This wasn’t Trump’s only likely offense – and we plan to work to ensure he is held accountable for his years of destructive criminal conduct.
