Continuing to Grow the Party |
Since I became chairman, I've had a passion for growing our party.
As I wrote here last week, we have always been the party of freedom, opportunity, and prosperity, and of good policy that brings us closer to those ideals. However, we haven't always been the best at communicating that, nor building the necessary relationships to ensure that our messages reaches as far as it can and should. And as our state has continued to grow and become more diverse and more urban, I knew that this had to change in order to ensure our long-term viability.
This weekend we reached a big milestone in doing just that.
On Saturday, the third cohort of the Indiana Republican Diversity Leadership Series gathered for the first time, and I had the opportunity to speak with them and welcome them to our headquarters in downtown Indianapolis. From our conversations, I can tell that the members of this cohort, like those before, are driven to make a real difference in their communities as some are running for office and others are already involved in their local party. I’m excited to see how they will engage with the program and use it to help them develop into strong leaders.
We're the party with a message that resonates with all, and we'll continue to spread that message and take our party to new heights.
Enjoy this week's newsletter. Sincerely, |

Taking in Some Hoops and Taking on the Next Step of the I-69 River Crossing Project |
|
|
Last Saturday, Governor Eric Holcomb attended the IHSAA boys basketball state championships and had some time to chat with IU men's basketball coach Mike Woodson. Afterwards, Gov. Holcomb tweeted: "Great job [IHSAA] and congratulations to each of the state finals teams who competed!" |
This week, the I-69 Ohio River Crossing, a project that has been years in the making, moved one step closer to becoming a reality, after Indiana and Kentucky signed an initial Memorandum of Agreement to begin preliminary development and financial planning for the second phase of the project.
“The Crossroads of America is more than a motto for Indiana. It’s a mission,” said Governor Eric Holcomb. “That’s why it’s so important to see this generational project progressing forward. Our goal is to improve connectivity for all Hoosiers, and we know strong infrastructure puts us in an even stronger position for economic development and continued successes. Connecting our states will improve the region and make a difference for Hoosiers for decades to come.”

U.S. House Passes H.R. 1, The Lower Energy Costs Act, Includes Provisions from Reps. Pence, Bucshon |
Yesterday, the U.S. House passed H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act, by a vote of 225-204; only 4 Democrats joined Republicans to reverse the disastrous Biden energy agenda and restore America's energy independence. Included in the bill were provisions from Reps. Greg Pence and Larry Bucshon. H.R. 1140 from Rep. Pence would unlock critical energy minerals while H.R. 1060 from Rep. Bucshon would strengthen and secure America's critical mineral supply.
H.R. 1 would unleash American energy and cut costs for families by: - Increasing domestic energy production
-
Reforming the permitting process for all industries
- Reversing anti-energy policies advanced by President Biden
- Streamlining energy infrastructure and exports
- Boosting the production and processing of critical minerals

WSJ: The House GOP Moves on Energy |
From the WSJ Editorial Board:
"Republicans campaigned on promoting more U.S. energy production and distribution, and the Scalise bill honors that promise."
"President Biden’s energy policy is summed up by last year’s $370 billion gift to the climate lobby, aka the Inflation Reduction Act. That leaves an opening for Congress, where House Republicans unveiled their energy agenda this month. The plan should have a shot if self-described moderate Democrats stand by their claims. "Majority Leader Steve Scalise’s Lower Energy Costs Act includes reforms to unburden energy producers and cut costs for consumers. It would repeal the Energy Department’s power to block cross-border purchases and sales of natural gas, letting producers import and export without months of preapproval."
Editorial continues. |

The latest unemployment rate figures reveal that Indiana's unemployment rate (3.1% in February) has now been lower than the nation's rate (3.6%) for 32 consecutive months, a streak longer than states like Florida and Texas. In February, Indiana also hit a new private sector employment peak of 2,827,300. This is the result when you create an economic environment that allows businesses and entrepreneurs to thrive. |
If you know a college student that's interested in stepping into the world of Hoosier politics, we've got them covered.
We're looking for young, talented Hoosiers to join us at our headquarters in Indianapolis. This opportunity allows them to get hands-on experience working for Indiana's largest and most successful political organization, providing administrative support to staff and taking on special projects (and more) while helping build their resume, gain insight into the political and legislative processes, and make valuable connections. And we'll do this all while helping them earn college credit.
Have someone in mind? Send them to this link for more information and to apply! |
