Whitmer Header
Dear Michigander,??
As the temperatures slowly but surely rise, the Pure Michigan springs and summers that we all love are just around the corner. Whether it?s a picnic at one of our state parks, a day in the Great Lakes, or a relaxing hike through a scenic trail, I?m sure we all have special memories surrounded by nature in our great state.?
That?s why one of my top priorities since taking office has been to preserve and protect our water, parks, and natural resources,?for us and future generations to enjoy. This is a goal we all share, and together we can protect this beautiful state we all call home.??
Sincerely,??
Governor Whitmer
Gretchen Whitmer

Explore our State Parks
Last year, I signed the Building Michigan Together Plan [ [link removed] ] which invested over $450 million in state and local parks across the state?the largest one-time investment in our parks and public lands in Michigan history.

To ensure every kid in Michigan can experience the splendor of Pure Michigan, I proposed the Nature Awaits program in my latest budget. The program would give every 4th grader a free field trip to a state park or recreation area. Our parks are important pillars of their communities because they support local businesses, create jobs, and give people beautiful, welcoming places to make memories. I will continue investing in our parks, recreation, and public lands so future generations can enjoy everything that Michigan has to offer.

Investing in our Greatest Resource
Last week, we celebrated World Water Day, which gives us an opportunity to appreciate the significance of water in our lives, especially in a state like ours. Michigan is defined by the Great Lakes?they?re the reason you can easily find us from space. As governor, I will continue fighting to protect our Great Lakes for generations to come.?

Since I took office, we have invested in drinking water, stormwater, and wastewater facilities across the state through the MI Clean Water Plan [ [link removed] ], all while supporting 30,000 jobs. The health of our economy is linked to the health of our people and our planet, which is why we have invested in removing lead lines, reducing toxic contaminants like PFAS, rebuilding water infrastructure, and protecting groundwater resources. These investments support good-paying jobs, modernize our infrastructure, and help ensure every parent can give their kid a glass of drinking water and know it's safe.

Native Plant Month
As we roll into spring and notice beautiful colors returning to our surroundings, we also celebrate April as Native Plant Month [ [link removed] ].?Michigan is home to more than 1,800 native plant species which include large shade trees, shrubs, vines, wildflowers, and everyone?s favorite spring flower, the orange traffic cone. To protect our environment?including our native plants?we have made record investments in conservation and natural resources through the Building Michigan Together Plan [ [link removed] ] and the MI Healthy Climate Plan [ [link removed] ]. Let?s keep working together to preserve our green spaces.

Michigan Wildlife Council
The Michigan Wildlife Council [ [link removed] ]? educates the public about the importance of wildlife conservation and preserves our state?s great outdoor heritage for future generations.? Every Michigander should be able to enjoy our forests, waters, and wildlife, which is why we take great care to protect and enhance these invaluable assets. The Michigan Wildlife Council is focused on increasing public knowledge about how wildlife and Michigan?s outdoors are managed and funded so that we can continue to enjoy them as we do today.
