John,
You won't get a more blunt reminder of the unfulfilled promise of
Brexit than today's
announcement that the UK is joining the CPTPP trade bloc.
Three years after we left the EU, this Vote Leave Government is
trying to squeeze every ounce of excitement out of a trade deal that
will add a measly 0.08% to our GDP and remove essential regulations on
palm oil that protect critically endangered Orangutangs from complete
extinction.
We're not prepared to let this issue slide, and I need your help to
turn the pressure up:
Kemi Badenoch's claimed that we "need to make trade-offs" in order
to secure this deal, but the truth is staring her right in the face -
the other trading bloc on our very doorstep delivered more for
our economy and produced the highest possible
regulations on palm oil related deforestation in the
world.
Our Government must do better - send
them a message that we're not prepared to trade the planet's
wildlife for a mediocre deal.
Best wishes,
Naomi Smith
