The future of business support

Nottingham skyline

Last month we highlighted some of the changes coming over the next months on business support.

We indicated that there are some projects ending, and some that will continue into the future, funded by the government?s Shared Prosperity Funding.

This month, we will explain a little bit more detail about projects that will continue but in a new revised format.

*General Business Support* ? the intention is for Nottingham to continue to deliver a local business support team, funded by Shared Prosperity Funding. We have ensured that front line business support remains in place ? the Nottingham account managers team. So for any business, you can contact your business advisor as before.

Further, we have commissioned Nottingham Business Ventures (NBV) to deliver start up and entrepreneurial business support, funded by Shared Prosperity Funding ? so please continue to use their service. Aligned to that support is the continued support for people thinking of setting up businesses, provided by BIPC at Bulwell Library. This is a project funded by The British Library, and provides businesses with some of the research and intellectual property support that a new start up needs. Once Central Library opens at Broad Marsh, we look forward to hosting this service back in the city centre. So for general business support, especially start-ups, there will continue to be a high level of provision. WE think that?s important to help grow our local Nottingham entrepreneurs.

*Sector Support* ? Nottingham has some amazing sector specialisms ? creative and digital, culture, life sciences, low carbon. It also has some strengths as a core city ? great retail offer, excellent night time economy, some of the best restaurants in the country, and a buzzy Hockley and is a student, youthful and culturally diverse city.

With this support, a first key priority has been to keep the important growth sectors growing. One particular project that will continue to be funded is Medilink. Nottingham has great LS businesses, and a strong history of creating innovative life science businesses ? in med tech, bio tech, clinical trials support and a variety of other key life science segments. With two great Universities, BioCity/We Are Pioneer Group, Nottingham Science Park, and close proximity to Life Science clusters in Loughborough and Birmingham, Nottingham is a great place to start and grow a life science business. And Medilink is a fantastic organisation designed to help those businesses grow, with specialist advice, support and contacts. Funding has been won by Medilink to support Nottingham Life Science sector from April 2023 to March 2025.

Next month we will share more information about some of the new business support projects that shared prosperity funding will deliver ? including exciting opportunities in low carbon sector support.
