Do you have an image – a photo or a piece of artwork – that you think could sum up how Oldham’s getting ready to celebrate the Coronation?

If you share it with us, your work could become the icon for #CoronationOldham, and be seen by thousands!

It doesn’t have to be a professional photo. It could be something you took during a Jubilee party. It could be a child’s painting. It could be something that shows how you feel about the coming Coronation.

You might have already seen the news, but we’re gearing up for the biggest celebration of the Coronation in Greater Manchester – with a live screening of the event, a tribute to the best of British music and family friendly street performances on May 6.

So far, acts include Queen II, Gladness, Do It Like DUA, The Threetles, and Tania as Amy Winehouse, with more entertainment to be confirmed.

Support the Big Help Out during the Coronation weekend

We are proud to support The Big Help Out – a community initiative which forms a part of the King’s Coronation.

Starting on Monday 8th May, it’s a chance for everybody to experience volunteering in Oldham.

Thousands of organisations – from the biggest to the smallest and most local – have been registering opportunities at thebighelpout.org.uk where the app will link you up which what’s happening near you, or in a category of volunteering that interests you most.

Organisations with volunteering opportunities, or who would like to take part in the day should visit thebighelpout.org.uk to find out how to take part, register opportunities, and show their support.

Get free voter ID

If you don’t have the right ID to vote in the May elections, then you will not be able to vote in person.

After the first successful drop-in session to help residents get free voter ID to vote in the May elections, we are hosting another one on Saturday 15 April in Spindles Town Square Shopping Centre, 10am to 3pm.

If you are not able to attend, you can drop into one of Oldham Libraries at any time and they can help you get online and fill the form in. They can also take your picture. You need your national insurance number to complete the registration and you must be registered to vote - but they can help you with this too.

Royton Town Hall clock temporarily out of action

The refurbishment works on the Victorian-styled Royton Town Hall and Library buildings are underway. The work will ensure these buildings of local heritage importance are improved and retained to benefit the local community and wider town.

Whilst works are underway, we will be turning off the historic clock and recommissioning the timepiece once works are complete.

The project includes various improvements including a refurbished library and a revamp of the Town Hall Meeting Room, bringing it back into use for the community, voluntary and faith sectors. Work on the project has been ongoing and we have already completed some work on the building – including the demolition of the rear extension.

The clock will temporarily stop ticking on Thursday 6 April with the hands fixed at 12’o’clock and will be turned back on in March 2024, when works are complete.

Have you signed up to the Oldham Halloween Half yet?

Oldham's half marathon, one of the toughest 13.1 mile races in the UK, returns this Halloween, after more than three years away.

Returning on Sunday 29 October as the ‘Oldham Halloween Half’, this event presents a worthy challenge to any runner, with the course’s hilly terrain promising to ‘get your pulse racing’.

The route may be gruesome, but it revels in spectacular scenery, the atmosphere is electric and it's an event not to be missed.

So, if you are looking for a new running challenge, you want to raise money for charity, or you’re looking to compete just for fun, sign-up today and take part. ([link removed])
