As the only Palestinian-American in Congress, I continue to remind people that our country is funding an apartheid regime that is killing Palestinian children and families.
The American people are listening. Recent polling demonstrates a big shift, with Democrats and Independents increasingly supporting Palestinians.1
More people in the U.S. are recognizing that Palestinians face violence and racism from the Israeli government. At a time when so many Democrats have rallied against fascism at home, many are now questioning why we send billions of dollars every year to a far-right government that human rights organizations say is maintaining an apartheid system.
I’m honored to be part of this shift―in Congress and with the American people―shining a spotlight on human rights abuses perpetrated by the Israeli government and demanding the U.S. stop sending billions of dollars in military aid to Israel.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib is leading a massive shift in Congress and across the country in support of Palestinian human rights.
A recent Gallup poll demonstrates this shift, showing that Democrats and Independents increasingly support Palestinians.1 Polls from the past few years have also shown that most Americans and a significant majority of Democrats support conditioning U.S. military aid to Israel on whether Israel complies with human rights law.
As the only Palestinian-American member of Congress, Rashida is working to end the unjust status quo that treats Palestinians as less than human.
Her Congressional leadership includes introducing a resolution to recognize the Nakba (“catastrophe” in Arabic), when over 750,000 Palestinians were murdered and displaced as part of the creation of the state of Israel. She continues to call on President Biden and the State Department to act, including to:

Demand that Israel end its discriminatory treatment of Palestinian Americans and other U.S. citizens with Arab or Muslim heritage (which Rashida has also faced)
Rashida is changing the conversation about what it means to stand up for human rights for all, with no exceptions. But as Republicans and Democrats in Congress try to silence legitimate criticism of Israel, Rashida’s bold voice and leadership are more critical now than ever.

Rashida continues to speak up on the House floor against the Israeli government’s decades-long occupation and systematic mistreatment of Palestinians, calling it what it is: apartheid.
For recognizing Palestinians’ basic humanity and calling for Palestinian rights, Rashida has faced attacks from her congressional colleagues on both sides of the aisle. Instead of condemning Israel’s human rights abuses, many Democrats and Republicans in Congress have condemned Rashida for shining a spotlight on these abuses.
But she won’t be silenced, and she does not back down from the fight to end oppression everywhere.
In the midst of attacks on free speech across the U.S., Rashida advocates for our right to boycott Israel as protected in our Constitution. And she has called on social media platforms to end their censorship of Palestinian political speech.
Although Palestinians are banned from flying their flag under the apartheid government, Rashida proudly flies the Palestinian flag at her office in Congress.
She regularly works with U.S.-based organizations advocating for Palestinian rights, and meets with Palestinian leaders such as Dr. Abu-Jamei of the Gaza Community Mental Health Program. Our team has also raised over $65,000 for organizations sending aid to Gazans in need and amplifying Palestinians’ on-the-ground stories, including in the West Bank.
