John–
This week has been hard.
Once again, far-right extremists have used a tragedy to further their
hateful agenda. They would rather point the finger at my community than
recognize what's actually putting children's lives at risk: Gun violence.
This Trans Day of Visibility, we're going to show we will not accept this
hate. We're going to raise our voices to demand an end to gun violence and
hate-fueled violence.
We're far from alone: Trans and non-binary Students Demand Action leaders
across the country are working to stop anti-trans attacks while leading in
the movement to end gun violence. [ [link removed] ]Read and share their stories.

Trans Day of Visibility is an annual, international commemoration
dedicated to celebrating the trans community and raising awareness of the
challenges we face.
Unfortunately, those challenges have gotten worse in recent years.
2021 was the deadliest year on record for trans and gender nonconforming
people. That trend has continued, with both high-profile mass shootings at
places like Club Q in Colorado Springs, and homicides of trans people in
states across the country. In the vast majority of cases, Black trans
women are bearing the brunt of this violence.
Adding to this crisis are lawmakers introducing and attempting to pass
hundreds of anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ+ laws. In many cases, they're the
same lawmakers who are gutting our gun safety laws. They're creating a
toxic and deadly environment that is costing us our lives.
But against the odds, I firmly believe there is hope.
I joined Students Demand Action because I refused to let the gun violence
crisis continue. Last year, I took that fight further by joining Queer
Youth Assemble. We're a group of activists from across the country who are
fighting to create a world where all queer youth are given safety,
autonomy, joy, and the ability to reach their fullest potentials.
It's what each and every one of us deserves.
So while there is a long road ahead of us, I know that a better future is
possible—one built by queer young people and our allies refusing to give
up. [ [link removed] ]Read and share our stories.
Thank you for being a part of this movement.
