Dear John,

California Assembly Bill 665, sponsored by Wendy Carrillo, would enable school counselors to take children away from their parents and funnel them into state housing facilities. In fact, the Bill would allow a mental health worker to place a child as young as twelve in a residential shelter facility without parental knowledge or consent. And this would all be done without parental knowledge, and no trial or evidence would be necessary!

One news outlet called AB 665 “State-Sanctioned Kidnapping.”

Pacific Justice Institute’s Center for Public Policy has formally opposed the Bill, sending a letter to the California Assembly Judiciary Committee stating...

Children in crisis need their parents’ care and concern. AB 665 is a wholesale abandonment of the fundamental principle that fit parents are the primary caretakers and decision-makers for their children’s health, including mental health. Excluding parents from this process is likely unconstitutional and it is certainly unwise.
