There is more support than cruelty in this world. There is more joy than anger. There is more love than hate.

John,

Today is Transgender Day of Visibility – a day for us to celebrate and center the voices of transgender people all over the country. This year especially, today really matters.

The wave of horrific anti-transgender legislation has been absolutely relentless, with discriminatory bills attacking our humanity and dignity advancing and passing in so many states.

But I promise you: There is more support than cruelty in this world. There is more joy than anger. There is more love than hate. And I know that no matter what laws are passed or what dangerous rhetoric is lobbed our way, transgender people in the South are powerful and strong – and we have an ever-growing movement of allies on our side.

Here are four things that gave me hope this week – take a look, and take a moment with us to reflect today, on Transgender Day of Visibility.

People nationwide are stepping up to support transgender youth and their families

The passage of anti-trans attacks infuriates me – but one thing giving me hope and resolve is the support we are feeling for CSE’s Southern Trans Youth Emergency Fund ([link removed]) . Through this new program, we are working with partners in many states – including inclusion tennessee, OUTMemphis, The TRANS Program, Mississippi Rising, Kentucky Health Justice Network, Equality Florida, and Fairness WV – to provide grants, patient navigation support, and resources to families impacted by anti-trans healthcare bans. With our partners, we are working to ensure that children and their families can continue to access the care they need and deserve – no matter what the laws are in their state. Trans South Carolinians spoke out for equality and shared their stories

I was honored to be with my CSE team members this week in Columbia, SC, where the SC United for Justice & Equality coalition fought back against two anti-transgender bills. While the bills ultimately advanced, dozens of transgender South Carolinians made their voices heard – both in the hearing room and at a powerful post-hearing rally on the steps of the Statehouse. North Carolina rallied for trans equality in Raleigh

CSE’s team was in both Carolinas on Wednesday this week – our Executive Director Jasmine joined folks from across North Carolina for Equality NC’s Advocacy Day. It was an opportunity to come together, hear from an intersectional coalition dedicated to defeating discriminatory laws, and declare North Carolinians’ solidarity and unity against anti-transgender oppression. Allies & LGBTQ+ adults are sharing beautiful messages of support for trans youth

Hundreds of people across the CSE community have submitted messages of support for transgender youth and their families – and the notes are inspiring and heart-warming. We’re sharing these out on our social media in the weeks ahead and ensuring that they reach trans young people who could use a boost of love and encouragement. Have you sent yours yet?
