Aloha Friend,
Last week, Governor Josh Green took action to protect reproductive healthcare rights and reduce crime by signing his first two bills into law.
With reproductive healthcare rights under attack across the country and red tape getting in the way of law enforcement's ability to keep us safe, Governor Green addressed these issues by signing Senate Bills 1 and 36.
Senate Bill 1 expands access to reproductive healthcare services and guarantees that our state will never interfere with a pregnant person's right to choose.
Critically, this bill also protects healthcare providers from facing criminal consequences when they provide legal reproductive healthcare services.
Senate Bill 36 cuts through red tape by allowing county prosecutors to initiate felony prosecutions by complaints following preliminary hearings, streamlining the process while at the same time protecting individual civil rights by prohibiting multiple attempts to initiate a felony prosecution for an offense.
These two new laws will help move us forward toward a more just and safe Hawaii.
We look forward to keeping you updated in the coming weeks and months as Governor Green signs more bills into law and keeps taking action on issues that make a difference in people’s lives.
As always, thank you for being an important member of Team Green.
Mahalo,
Team Green
