*HARKER HEIGHTS, TX ??*After 6 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Harker Heights, Fire Chief Paul D. Sims has announced his retirement from the Harker Heights Fire Department effective April 28, 2023.? Chief Sims is retiring from the Texas Municipal Retirement System and will remain in the fire services but within a different retirement system.

Sims, who has served as Harker Heights Fire Chief since 2016, has accepted a position as Assistant Fire Chief with Montgomery County Emergency Services District #9 Caney Creek Fire & Rescue within Montgomery County.?

?Paul has served the City of Harker Heights with honor and dedication for six years,? City Manager David Mitchell said. ?Thanks to his outstanding leadership, the Harker Heights Fire Department has been recognized as an outstanding fire department.? He has overseen the renovations of both of our fire stations and introduced a phase training plan to ensure consistent professional training for his staff.?

?I am so proud of the fantastic men and women of the Harker Heights Fire Department family and what we have been able to accomplish,? Fire Chief Sims said. ?From facing the dangers and challenges of their fire, EMS and special rescue duties during a crazy last couple of years to proactively reaching out to the community to better educate and engage our residents in the name of safety, they have always risen to the challenge. So, while I look forward to the new challenges ahead, I will sincerely miss being part of this outstanding organization in service to such a wonderful community.?

As fire chief, Sims has worked to enhance the safety of firefighters and the community through technology and equipment improvements, collaboration, and community partnerships.? ?In 6 years as Fire Chief, Chief Sims provided leadership, direction, vision, and hope for continued growth and a positive future of all employees within the Harker Heights Fire Department?. The City of Harker Heights will hold a Farewell & Best Wishes event for Chief Sims on April 28, 2023 from 2pm ? 4pm at the Central Fire Station, 401 Indian Trail.
