Dr. Ralph Blondel Charles, who directs our health care teams in the Artibonite region in Haiti said “we’re practicing war medicine” when asked to describe the situation his team is facing.

Currently, the risk to our staff and patients is the worst we’ve seen in almost 40 years. We’ve been forced to limit some services at some facilities—transferring patients to safer ones in our network.
Officials now speculate that up to 90% of Port-au-Prince is controlled by gangs.
Despite this chaos, the Zanmi Lasante team hasn’t faltered. Patients can still receive free, high-quality health care, and our caregivers continue to save lives every day.
Dr. Blondel describes it as “functioning with our nails and teeth.” Key word: functioning.
Thank you for your tangible solidarity.
In gratitude,
The PIH Team
