Dear John,

Gender-based violence (GBV)* is prevalent across the globe. 1 in 3 women will experience gender based violence in their lifetime [[link removed]]. Ensuring that people receive the support they need is critical.

In Rwanda community members are working with women and girls who have experienced gender-based violence. They are supporting them to continue their education, ensuring they receive medical treatment, and helping them report their experience to the authorities.

In just one project we support, between 2021-2022:

94 children who had experienced sexual violence were supported in returning to school.254 cases of gender-based violence were referred to prosecutors.111 young mothers who had experienced sexual violence committed to attending nearby health centres for an HIV test.

Health workers, activists, educators and local authorities are working together to give essential support to people who have experienced GBV.

In solidarity,

Siaffa Bunduka
